RE: Propane conversions for EU2000's ??
Thanks for all the data. Dave, I sent you a PM and would appreciate any/all information you have.
I dont have a yamaha, but appreciate the thought.
RE: inverter, auto switch, sub panel -- did I get it right?
Funny thing is during the install I almost DID NOT run conduit, but I did catch my mistake and ran plastic. Thanks.
Also, I switched around my feeds on the ATS as previously posted and BINGO, works mucho-betta, no delay.
Love this forum.
RE: inverter, auto switch, sub panel -- did I get it right?
Magnetek 30amp switch.
The only reason for the larger inverter was I got a killer deal on it ($200 new). Uses the same as power as the 1200/2400 when idle so no loss having more.
Bonus = if at the races in Vegas, a Walmart parking lot, RV campground, or deep in the hills of Idaho and I hear the words "Honey, I need to do my hair..." --- Bingo.... No need to fire up the generator... plug it in and get after it is a nice option..
RE: inverter, auto switch, sub panel -- did I get it right?
Sweet! Thanks for all of the great information. I will switch the inverter over to the shore power side and put the shore power on the generator side. As soon as I read your recommendation the light came on and I actually think I said "duh" out loud! I will also see if there is a dip switch while I am in there.
I do not have the generator wired direct as I have the EU2000's and just plug the shore power cable up when needed (dont really need them that often). With this setup, I have been able to get 4 good days of micro, sponge-bob for the kids, NASCAR from the satelite, and tons of heater, water pump, and light use without ever dropping the bank below 12.0 volts. I have also switched 90% of the interior lights to flourescent and some LED night lights (kitchen, bathroom, and outside step) and that helped a bunch.
Thanks all for the expert help and advise!
inverter, auto switch, sub panel -- did I get it right?
Well, I finally think I have the optimum setup, but want to run it past the pro's just to make sure.
-- Batteries = 4 6-volts (2 sets in series) then para for the 12v
-- Inverter = Vector 3000/6000 3' from battery bank with 0/0 wire. Remote for inverter on/off wired to inside 5er.
-- Installed sub panel behind main panel. Removed GFCI, Wall, and Mirco circuit from main and installed into sub on individual breakers.
-- Ran a 10-3 cord from main panel to the shore power input on the 30amp auto transfer switch located next to the inverter. Used 10-3 instead of romex due to movement (had to run under 5er sub floor and trhu several bulk head areas.
-- Ran a short lead from the inverter 20amp socket to the generator input on the auto transfer switch.
-- Ran a 10-3 cord from the auto transfer switch coach power connection to the sub panel.
All seems great at this point. On shore power, the switch engages and the entire 5er is powered up. Unplug from shore power and turn on the inverter, the sub panel gets power and all of those outlets work just fine.
The only issue I have at the moment is the auto transfer switch takes about 1 minute to engage when on the inverter. I assume that is because the inverter is not producing 110+ when it initially comes on?
Anyhow, anybody see any issues I may have overlooked?
With my 4 6-volts, 180 watts solor on the roof charging the battery bank during the day, and the occasional EU2000i generator for Mirco or AC, I seem to have hit the optimal setup for our type of camping and hunting.. Mostly austure dry camping.
Thanks for any/all input...
RE: Weather cracked tires - Go or No Go ??
Well I thought that was going to be the answer and I agree with all about getting them replaced. Its not a money issue, I just wasnt sure if I was over-reacting and throwing out decent tires for nothing. Heading to check-out a new set from local LES SCHWAB fellas this am. Thanks for all the help!
Weather cracked tires - Go or No Go ??
My 5er tires have 75% tread remaining on them, but they have weather cracking on 3 of 4 tires. most cracks go all the way around the side wall near the rim, but they don't seem to be very deep. What if any concerns should I have if the tires are still in good shape other than the weather cracks? Does not seem to be a structural issue looking at it, but I am not sure, so I am reaching out to the experts located here-in.
Noisy heat ducting
My ducting under the floor had developed a rather annoying low "pop" when the heater is running. It sounds like the heat ducting is expanding and contracting in certain areas, and it happens rythmically about every minute or so, thus rendering sleep impossible. any similar experiences or suggestions?
I have tried proping small blocks of wood just larger than the ducts inside the ducting itself around the registers, but that had little if any help.
RE: uneven front stabilizers on 5er
I have the quick release pins that hold them in place. After getting as level with the truck as I can, I drop the legs and let the pins lock in by themselves, this elimiates the need to do anything other than level front to rear. I always put a plastic leveling block under the pads to keep them from sinking.
RE: No increase in fuel usage after reaching 20,000 6.7 cummins
Anyone know of a rev limiter I could set for 1800 rpm, that I could enable with a switch :-)
Bryan
If you want a rev limiter, Buy a moped....
Seriously, I notice the same results and it gets better when I use the cruise as much as possible.. But then I throw all that out the window and hookup to the 32' beast to go have fun, and it was all for not...
RE: I am a believer now! Don't put weight on the bumper!
took mine off right away, it was a pull out bumper with a small area for bikes, but still very weak. Had a professional weld a receiver hitch to the back of the 5er frame and love it. Used a receiver carrier rack for a while then upgraded to a trailer for the atv, but when not towing the trailer I still use the carrier and it works great.
RE: 5th Wheel Jiggle
Crank out wheel chocks work great, but the stabilizer helps as well IMO. At first I was pre-loading the stabilizer to much and had the same complaint. But now that I barely load the stabilizer I personally think it makes a pretty good difference.
RE: Satellite signal- am I doing it right?????
I use a compass 1st to get the correct direction the dish should point. Then setup the tri-pod with a small level, Leave the SKEW (tilt) alone, it never changes and if it does it has never bothered me. Use a satellite signal finder connect per instructions (easy to do) then dial in the best signal.
Do not use the antenna box unless you take out the amplified connection and replace with a tee.
I have noticed that DirecTV needs to have it check switch accomplished prior to setting up the system, so I automatically do that first. Then run another check switch after your get a signal.
Hope this helps... I know it can be frustrating, on trip it takes 3 minutes, the next I have to move the dish around the camp ground several times. I carry 200' of coax just for that purpose.
RE: $5 a gal for Diesel ?
Were spending too much time on cloning sheep, and not enough time on a synthetic fuel that can be mass produced cheaply.
If that is true then why would Exxon Mobil not produce cheap synthetic fuel and sell it for a huge profit ?
They are already there, just with fossil fuel, why would they change? Point is/was we all need to start thinking outside the box, way outside...
And quit depending on a foreign cartels to determine our future. The law of supply and demand is no longer driving oil futures, and that's not good.
My 2 cents only, and I am probably due some change.
Anyhow, happy camping! Just a little closer to home for this clan.

Oh well, At least we will have something to do while were watching our vehicles sit in the drive way.
RE: Interesting solar panel discovery
I am sure it has something to do with the major oil companies or uncle sam. did you pay your solar taxes?
I would have to go with the several issues theory. shade from mast, time of day, cloud cover, etc.
RE: V-notched Tailgate - Best one???
I have the "Turbo Net" that is very similar to your cheapie, and LOVE IT. Easy to take it up and down, and it NEVER comes unlatched. I lost a $300 Husky metal vented t-gate traveling down a dirt road. It seperated from the box due to bed twist and the cables eventually gave up the fight. Father in-law in tow saw it going down, but by the time I got whowed-up and such, the damage had been done. LOVE MY CHEAP TURBO NET!
Same Entry Matt as well... Love it too.
